I would say without any doubt that Bill Bradley is behind Vin Denson, They were both local to me in their early days and I became a very good friend of Bill.

I am now advised that the “fan” shouting encouragement is none other than double world champion Norman Sheil and the rider taking a drink is the late Ken Hill. Not many dummies in that group! I now think the race is on the King’s Gardens, Southport, not really Billy’s cup of tea at all but he wasn’t only a climber in his later years. If the race really is at Southport there is a strong possibility that Brian “Pee Wee” Pearson was on the start line. BTW the photo was taken by Jackie Lowe, past Merseyside champion.

Defo kings gardens, you can see the clifton hotel on left and the kingsway casino on the right.
