Keukeleire wins G P Samyn

I caught the last 20km of this race and it was all action. I don’t know the location but I guess it was either Northern France or Wallonie. Eighteen km out there was a straight road, pan flat and no hedges and two guys blasted off the front and the bunch split in to about six groups before reforming. The leaders never had more than 20 seconds and were caught 5km from the line. Riders kept jumping away but it came down to a bunch sprint.

There was no hint of a lead out train and a Cofidis rider hit the front from about 600 metres out and was still leading when his team mate Jens Keukeleire jumped from about twelve back and won sitting up. The winner is a 21 year old Belgian who clearly has plenty of talent but this race was just so different from the big events that it must be a question of wait and see.
