Drunken antics at Paris-Roubaix not tolerated

Paris-Roubaix organisers ASO are working closely with the French police and local council to ensure that there is no repetion of the hooliganism seen last year at the Carrefour de L’Arbre pave section.

Alcohol will be banned on race day 11th April and parking at the side of the road will not be allowed for four days prior to the race. There will be two squadrons of police on duty including mounted gendarmes and a patrolling helicopter. Race Director Jean-Francois Pescheux claims these measures are a necessary reaction to the appalling behaviour of drunken fans who he claims were “mostly Flemish”. Certainly Filippo Pozzato claims that his failed pursuit of Tom Boonen was hampered by the antics of abusive supporters of Tommeke.
