Johnny Brackstone winning in 1952

My old mate Bracky was re-living old times (again) when I last called and he produced this photo of his first win. He says the race was in Kent almost sixty years ago and as it was taken by H. Bernthal of 117 Skinner Street, Gillingham he may well be right.

Below the old sprinter is checking out the Koppenberg. he conceeded that it was a bit too steep for him.

I wonder if johnny brackstone remembers an easter training weekend when he climbed Porlock hill with two housebricks hidden in his saddlebag.Did he know they were there? He made it up by tacking from kerb to kerb. I followed him. Several members of the West London road club suffered that easter with nearly 550miles covered.
Bracky says he had no idea the bricks were in his saddlebag. He says Stonex (not sure of the spelling) was the strong man that easter and that some of the younger guys were on there last legs by the time they got back to Southall. Thanks for the comment Terry and bracky sends his regards.
